Sierra Club

At the end of this year I am trying to assess what good has come in our world and how these things have had an impact on our environment. I am reading the new issue of the Siera Club's magazine (J/F 08) where one interesting article about how a past president of the Sierra Club Adam Werbach is now consulting for Walmart and how this fact is kind of an eye catcher because in the past Werbach refered to Walmart as a urban virus. Now things are different as this the biggest retail store in the world has become interested in the environment and this is one of the most possitive things that can happen as the impact that a huge company such as Walmart with total yearly sales of over $351 billion dollars is difficult to match. Any action as small as a few percent say a 5% saving in waste will have a tremendous impact on the world. More so because Walmart has business in over 13 countries and more than 130 million customers each week will be affectede and encouraged to adopt sustainable practices.

Nobel Prize and Politics

In the Oregonian Saturday October 29, 2007 there are a couple of articles about the oil companies and the Burma Myanmar conflict! Writen by Thomas Hogue (associated press) analyses the idea of how multinational corportions are in support of the militar junta and getting as a pay back favours related to the exploitation of their natural resources. Od cxourse this is not in any way benefiting the people of this empoverished country!

Introduction

This blog "Tlaltecuhtli" will talk about Mother Earth's needs and wants. It will share with you ideas and current news about our environment. The name Tlaltecuhtli comes from the Aztec's goddess Mother Earth. So it seem appropriate for the name of a blog that will talk about our human environment as this Earth is our "Home in The Universe"
